Basically the answer was that Corten should not be used above 800F. The strength falls off drastically at that point.CorTen A properties at 850 F ?Jul 26, 2005Carbon steel maximum operation temperatureJul 05, 2004See more results
Its warm resistance properties, have a large range application in the chemical industry, petro chemistry, cement producer, etc., when are needed work temperatures between 350ºC and 600ºC. Molybdenum improves the mechanical characteristics in high temperatures while Cromo increases specially the resistance, long lasting steel's life.
Your proposed solution of using Cor Ten as a liner will creep over time and deform because of exposure to 850 deg F (about 454°C). According to the Corten A steel chemical composition, corten a steel is made from adding common steel to a small amount of Cu, Cr, P elements and so on, then making some special process. Thus its corrosion resistance is about 3 to 8 times higher than the common steel.
In addition to low maintenance costs, the reduced need for corrosion prevention means less use of paint and solvents, making COR TEN® an environmental friendly choice of steel. Typical applications are structural components for buildings, transmission poles, bridges and many others.
Jul 26, 2005 · It will be somewhat conservative assuming SA 36 material properties, however, I would expect similar behavior of the Cor Ten plate as SA 36 carbon steel plate at elevated temperature. Having said this, the yield and tensile properties for SA 36 show a drop beginning at 700 deg F. Above 700 deg F service temperature, the properties of SA 36 are time dependent (creep controlled).
Steel Properties at High Temperatures Creep is the slow plastic deformation of metals under a constant stress, which becomes important inThe soft metals used at about room temperature, such as lead pipes and white metal bearings.
Nov 19, 2009 · Corten steel (often referred to as Cor–Ten) is a weather resistant steel which could more accurately be termed as an "Atmospheric Corrosion Resistant Steel". It is a copper chromium alloy steel – this alloy displays a greater level of resistance to atmospheric weathering when compared to other unalloyed steels.
COR TEN® is a well known weathering steel brand for buildings and structures, and a favorite facade material among architects and designers. The combination of high strength, aesthetic appearance, low maintenance and flexibility, make it an ideal choice for projects of all shapes and sizes.
ASTM CortenA steel grade is a hot rolled products of structural steels in technical delivery conditions with improved atmospheric corrosion resistance. The steel grade CortenA is according to ASTM standard which with the yield strength of 355MPa and the tensile strength of 470 630MPa.Corten A steel was first used in buildings in 1958 because it

Thus, for example, a grade S355K2W is a structural steel with a yield stress of 355 MPa. The K2 is a grade of toughness, and the W indicates it is a weathering steel (see Section 31.6.2 ).
