  • TIGErratic Arc and contamination. Can't figure it out.

Dec 06, 2011 · Ok so here is my problem. I am welding using a Thermal Arc 300GTSW inverter machine. 3/32 2% thoriated tungsten. Welding 1/8" aluminum plate and or bar stock just trying to get a puddle going. I get this aweful aweful spatter, no puddle forming and the arc is so erratic it's useless. Tungsten keeps blackening and there is black all over the weld.

  • The great debateTransformers or inverters

May 08, 2017 · It took a number of years to work through various electrical designs to be able to control the arc, which also brought about the need to create covered (or coated) arc welding electrodes, a process that is commonly referred to as shielded metal arc welding (SMAW) or stick welding.

  • How to Weld TIG Welding 11 Steps (with Pictures

TIG generates heat via an arc of electricity jumping from a (tungsten metal) electrode to the metal surfaces you intend to weld usually aluminum or steel. TIG stands for Tungsten Inert Gas, after the tungsten electrode, and the sheath of inert gas (argon or an argon mixture) surrounding it.

  • What is the difference between TIG & MIG welding? Quora

TIG and MIG welding are arc welding processes in which the molten weld pool is protected from the atmosphere by a shroud of inert gas around the arc.
